New Blend (Redfoot)

4.2★★★★★4.2· 25 ratingsMedium-Full

La Aroma de Cuba was first released in 2002 and immediately got the attention of Cigar Aficionado. The Classic blend is a spicy cigar with a touch of sweet cocoa leather and earthy notes. The construction burn and draw are impeccable and will impress any tedious cigar smoker.

The cap wouldn't cut. When trying to cut the cap, the whole thing popped right off. Lots of veins in the wrapper. Uneven burn throughout the cigar. Heavy smoke. Moderate earthy taste with a hint of a woodsy flavor. Moderate pepper aftertaste.

Spicy, not pepper, up front. Mellows after 1/3. M. Semi-thick smoke.

It was a decent cigar but the draw was to tight. There was a flavor that did not go great with the coffee I was drinking. Overall, this cigar may have been past it's prime.

Time did this stick will, much better than my first go at this, the flavours were a little more developed this time. More than likely to keep a fiver and with a little more time maybe a box for the right price.

Age/Rest: 35 Days Pre-light: Aromas of mint chocolate, hay and cut grass. Tight, visible seams, light vein. A light to medium brown wrapper with a large double cap. A normal pack, not solid firm but not squishy. The Toast: The breeze was just enough to cause issues on the toast, but got it lit evenly with a few extra seconds on the toasting. The Draw: Near perfect draw at the start. The Burn: The First Third: Getting the very occasional hint of chocolate, mostly nuts, grass and hay. A little touch of spice on the finish. The smoke is very wispy, with an almost light feeling (thin). It's very smooth though. The Second Third: Similar flavour strength (very mild flavours), still get the occasional draw that has flavour but most fall short. If anything a light shortbread/sugar cookie without the sugar and a touch of savory baking spice on the tongue. The Final Third: Again the flavours were very subtle and hard to make out. Almost a honey graham cracker at points but again minimal sweetness. Mostly aged tobacco, hay and grass when the graham cracker wasn't poking through. Overall: I didn't hate it but didn't love it either. The flavours were weak at best. I'd keep a fiver on hand for when I want a mild stick.

Fantastic aroma, some sweetness, very smooth, perfect draw and burn line. Cap did split using punch cut.

Overall, an awesome cigar, with just a small problem. To begin with, the pre-light draw had a very strong molasses taste. The first third was very peppery, with a very strong, slightly cocoa finish. By the second third, the pepperiness gave way to a more leather-toast profile, and the finish was much more pleasant and mild. In the final third, this where the problem arose. I always take the band off my cigars. When I did this one, part of the wrapper came off. Not much... Just a bit. When the burn reached this small blemish, I couldn't keep the stick lit. It also turned really hot and mushy in flavor. The overall construction was perfect, with an even burn. I'll have to see if that was just a fluke or not. I've never had a cigar act like that with such a small seemingly superficial tear to the wrapper. 4 stars
