Undercrown
Undercrown by Drew Estate first came onto the scene in 2011. It was supposed to serve as a surrogate smoke for the Liga Privada cigars, which are more expensive and in higher demand. The way the story goes, the rollers at the Drew Estate factory were smoking too many Liga Privadas, so they blended the Undercrown for themselves after they were told to stop depleting the Liga Privada inventory. They came up with a blend and Drew Estate commercially released it as Undercrown. Naturally, Undercrowns were immediately compared to Liga Privada, but the brand has been on the market long enough to stand on its own. It shows a strong oaky, leathery character finessed by hints of vanilla and a roasted coffee bean finish.

Cigare dont le plaisir est essentiellement visuel avec sa belle cape maduro bien tendue, agrémenté d'une double bague très jolie. Le tirage est bon. Le volume de fumée est impressionnant et épais. Durant la dégustation la cape se fend à plusieurs endroit durant les deux premiers tiers. La cendre est foncée et tient sur deux centimètres environ. Concernant ses arômes, le boisé et le terreux sont dominants avec du poivre noir, en fond, du début à la fin. L'absence de notes animales ou crémeuses me gênent profondément pour pouvoir l'apprécier. Ce cigare n'est pas â mon goût définitivement.

Première dégustation de ce cigare pour moi. Il est vrai que j'etais impatient de le découvrir du fait qu'il est très présent sur Internet avec des critiques plutôt bonne. Le rendez-vous à été manqué pour ma part. Certes l'aspect visuel et les effluves qu'il dégage invité à la dégustation, mais sa palette aromatique de révèle étroite et pour tous ceux qui n'apprécie pas le poivre noir, passez votre chemin. Du début à la fin, le poivre sera l'arôme dominant. Un peu de boisé et terre viendront pointer du nez. Le tirage est bon et la combustion régulière malgré une cape assez épaisse. Le volume de fumée est restreint et assez épicé. La cendre est blanche et bien compacte. La longueur en bouche est très conséquente. Un module plus court serait préférable pour moi, car je me suis ennuyé dès le deuxième tiers. Je lui redonnerais une nouvelle chance mais dans quelques temps.
